ATA Action Co-led a Stakeholder Letter Signed by 200+ Organizations, Submitted Today to New DEA Administrator
WASHINGTON, DC, JULY 22, 2025 – ATA Action, the advocacy arm of the American Telemedicine Association, offers congratulations and an urgent call to action to the newly appointed Administrator of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Terrance C. “Terry” Cole.
“Our congratulations go to President Trump’s nominee for DEA Administrator, Terry Cole, who will be heading the agency at a critical time in healthcare policy. Specifically, we urge Administrator Cole to take immediate action to establish a permanent framework for the remote prescribing of controlled substances that protects both patients and providers while enhancing access to critical and lifesaving prescriptions,” said Kyle Zebley, executive director, ATA Action and senior vice president, public policy at the ATA. “Under his leadership, the DEA has the opportunity to ensure continued access to telehealth services for millions of individuals with mental health conditions, substance use disorder and other chronic conditions, while maintaining the highest standards for patient safety.
“By solidifying this essential telehealth flexibility put in place during President Trump’s first term in office and perpetuating his leadership and commitment to reforming our ailing healthcare system, the DEA will uphold the health and safety of Americans in urgent need of care,” Zebley added. “ATA Action pledges to work with Administrator Cole, his team at the DEA and other advocates and experts to preserve the remote prescribing of controlled substances via telehealth before this waiver expires at year end.”
