ATA Action Endorses Language in Short-term Continuing Resolution from House Republicans Extending Telehealth Waiver
WASHINGTON, DC, SEPTEMBER 17, 2025 – ATA Action, the advocacy arm of the American Telemedicine Association, made the following statement today, urging the Trump Administration and Congress to take action before access to telehealth services is cut off for millions of Americans on September 30.
“We are mere days away from having telehealth services lapse, leaving literally millions of patients across the country with no access to necessary care and our healthcare providers helpless to deliver that care,” said Kyle Zebley, executive director, ATA Action and senior vice president, public policy at the ATA. “ATA Action supports and endorses the short-term continuing resolution language put forward by U.S. House leadership that extends Medicare telehealth flexibilities and the Acute Hospital Care at Home program through November 21. This is the only viable legislative vehicle up for consideration that will ensure these essential programs do not lapse past the end of the month.
“It’s particularly apropos that these ongoing policy negotiations are taking place during the ATA’s annual Telehealth Awareness Week, while health systems, patient organizations, government agencies and other key stakeholders are convening across the country to recognize the value of telehealth and digital health in care delivery,” Zebley added. Both the U.S. House and Senate are issuing TAW resolutions in support of telehealth.
“While we continue to push for permanency, we ask members of Congress on both sides of the aisle and in both chambers, as well as the Administration, to work together to put in place yet another temporary extension for telehealth. On behalf of the patients who rely on our healthcare system, we implore policymakers to ensure that telehealth not get caught in dynamics around a government shutdown and we once again extend uninterrupted access to virtual care services,” Zebley said. “Under President Trump’s transformative leadership during the pandemic, essential flexibilities were enacted to allow unprecedented access to telehealth that has since proved indispensable to our healthcare system. President Trump can now take another courageous step to stop this endless loop of uncertainty and secure permanent access to telehealth services.”
